  • OSCE of 3rd Sem

    We're going to sit for our 2nd OSCE (Objective Structure Clinical Examination) on this coming Saturday..

    this time, it is divided into only 6 stations *phew.. ! much relieved!!!*

    same as last sem, 5 minutes for each station + 1 additional minute 2 read d question which will pasted outside the doors of the stations..

    Station 1 : Explanation and Planning

    • where we are supposed to give explanations and explain about the plans to be done to the simulated patients (who will be our seniors) on a given scenario or case..

    Station 2 : Eye Physical Examination

    • we must perform specific eye physical examination based on the cases given. Steps must also be explained to the observer as we perform the examination. *it's basically like talking to your ownself facing the simulated patients, and it's abit weird! hehe.. but we're getting used to it though.. :P*
    • The specific Eye Physical Examination includes Visual Acuity (types : Snellen Chart, Finger-Counting, Hand Movement, or Light Perception), Anterior Segment Examination (examine patient's eyelid, supra cilia, conjunctiva, Cornea, Anterior Chamber, Iris, Pupil and its reflex, and Lens with the use of penlight and Loup Magnifier), Visual Confrontation (to check patient's visual field), Schiotz Tonometry examination (to determine patient's intraocular pressure), Direct Funduscopy (to examine the retina, vitreous humor, optic discs etc.)

    Station 3 : Hematologic Skills

    • Blood Smear Slide Preparation (steps of the whole procedure must be explained)
    • Steps on how to interpret the result of the blood smear slide must also be explained
    • To interpret and evaluate the blood smear slide given under the microscope (For example : Normocytic Normochromic etc.)

    Station 4 : Micro biologic Staining

    • We are require to prepare and demonstrate the stpes and microscopic evaluation of the Micro Biologic Staining based on the questions.
    • There are 2 Micro Biologic Staining that will be asked : Ziehl-Neelson Staining and Gram Staining.
    • Observer or Examiner might also ask us to demonstrate the procedure of perform the microscopic evaluation to a GIVEN preparation *Which we DON'T have to prepare*
    • As above, Steps must be clearly explained based on what we DO and result of the microscopic evaluation must be written down on answer sheets provided.

    Station 5 : Feces Examination

    • We would be asked to demonstrate the procedures of feces examination slide and evaluate slides given under microscope.
    • steps should be explained and result must be written down.
    • Observer or examiner will also evaluate our feces examination slides. *so, we can't simply bullshit in front of the examiner if we don't see anything* haha.. :P

    Station 6 : Cancer Screening

    • we must perform Breast Physical Examination on mannequine *Not real patients! so, don't get too excited ya, xiao yu er! haha.. =P* Steps and Examination Techniques must be explained..
